Caring for ceramics
Handmade ceramics live with you for many years when they are treated well. A few simple habits keep your piece at its best.
Washing
- Wash by hand with warm water, mild soap and a soft sponge.
- Avoid rough scourers and harsh cleaners, which scratch the glaze.
- Let the piece dry completely before you put it away.
Heat
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature, such as pouring boiling water into a cold piece or setting a hot piece on a cold, wet surface.
- Do not use a piece in the oven, the microwave or the dishwasher unless its page says it is suitable.
Food and drink
The page of each piece says whether it is made for food and drink. Decorative pieces, such as painted vases, are for display.
The unglazed base
The base of a piece is usually left unglazed and carries the Arcilla stamp. It can absorb a little water, so place a coaster or a cloth under it on wooden furniture.
